2013 Plan (2013 Update) to the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Starting in 2009, the County initiated a process to update the 2007 MJHM Plan. This plan is required to be updated every five years. The Departments of Public Works, Economic Development, Planning & Tourism, Real Property and GIS Services, and the Emergency Services are leading this planning process. We are seeking participation from the 43 municipalities in the county and the general public to update the plan with new areas of concern and strategies to mitigate impacts of natural hazards.
The County has completed the FINAL update to the Plan. You may download a copy of the 2013 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (pdf file, 10.7Mb) for Cattaraugus County.

2007 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
In 2007, the Cattaraugus County Legislature adopted a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for Cattaraugus County in accordance with the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K). This law requires local governments to have a hazard mitigation plan approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A mitigation plan identifies actions that need to be taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural disasters such as floods, severe storms, and ice storms. The goal of this plan is to examine the potential natural hazards that could affect Cattaraugus County, estimate what those potential impacts could be, and develop and implement action items to mitigate impacts from the identified natural hazards.
