Under the NYS Constitution, each Sheriff's Office must operate a Civil Office. The Sheriff is a designated enforcement officer of the Supreme Court of New York and is responsible for enforcing lower court mandates. The responsibilities of the Civil Office falls in to two specific areas: Service of Process and Enforcement. The Service of Process could include, but is not limited to the service of summons, subpoenas, petitions, court orders and family court papers. Enforcement includes Evictions, Income and Property Executions and Seizures and Warrants of Civil Arrest.
