Children's Hazardous Products

Health and Safety Standards for the Early Intervention Program (PDF revised 2-2023) provides guidance to agencies, individuals, and municipalities that are approved to participate in the NYSDOH Early Intervention Program for the delivery of EI services in a manner that protects the health and safety of children receiving EI services. General Standard 8.2 states that equipment, materials, and/or toys used by the provider are to be "in good condition, free of lead and are cleaned regularly and disinfected weekly."

The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issues recalls for many different kinds of products, including toys, that pose a risk for serious injury or death. Further information about recalls and product safety news can be found at Consumer Product Safety Commission. Service providers should cease using any recalled toys and remove them from the area where EI services are delivered. In addition, providers should ensure that recalled toys are not accessible to any child.

To get more details about the health hazard, where the product was sold, what consumers can do, or how to return or replace the product, call CPSC's recall hotline at 1-800-638-2772.
