Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced the Twenty-Fourth (24th) Annual Senior Forum and Public Hearing will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Ellicottville Senior High School beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The forum is free and open to all Senior Citizens, their Caregivers, and those interested in Senior Services. 

The day's events include the annual Public Hearing, which will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., a series of workshops during two time periods, lunch provided by Sysco Foods, and afternoon entertainment.  Registration includes breakfast as well and is held from 8:30am-8:45am. 

Following the public hearing, participants will be provided with the opportunity to choose from the following workshops (see full descriptions of workshops at bottom of page):

  • "Advocacy for the 50+: From Your Neighborhood to Washington D.C. - What's Happening and How it Impacts You" ~ Randy Hoak
  • "The History of World War II" ~ Steven G. Appleby
  • "Zumba! - A Dance Exercise" ~ Olivia Mac Williams
  • "VA Benefits, It Pays to Plan Ahead" ~ Steve E. McCord
  • "Patriotic Paint & Pour" ~ Tammy Schmidt
  • "STARS (Southern Tier Aero Radio Society) - Radio Control Airplanes" ~ Jim Keough

Reservations for lunch must be made by August 10, 2018, at any Senior Wellness and Nutrition program dining site or by calling the Department of the Aging/NY Connects office in Olean at 373-8032 or 1-800-462-2901. 

"The Buffalo Dolls" concert program will be the afternoon entertainment.  They will transport you back to the 40's, 50's & 60's by singing the hits of those decades in the style of the Andrews Sisters.   There will also be door prizes drawn at the end of the day for which you must be present to win.

Advocacy for the 50+: From Your Neighborhood to Washington D.C.- What's Happening and How it Impacts You - AARP advocates for age 50 and over individuals and their families at the local, state and national levels. Their mission is to empower people to choose how they live as they age. This workshop provides an overview of local, state and national policy and how it is impacting YOU today.
The History of World War II -Steve Appleby, Director of the Eldred WWII Museum, will share his wealth of knowledge of WWII. You will be able to see artifacts from the museum as well. The Eldred WWII Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of World War II. The museum features spectacular exhibits, award-winning video, and a large research library.
Zumba! - A Dance Exercise- This basic Zumba class is a senior friendly, aerobic activity with a Latin beat. The movements are suitable for anyone from ages 18-98. In this class, you can work up a sweat or simply sway to the music. It's up to you!
VA Benefits, It Pays to Plan Ahead- The Veterans Administration provides a variety of benefits and services to Service members, Veterans, and their families. Have you served in the Military? If so, Thank You!  Attend this workshop to find out if you or a loved one are receiving the appropriate benefits.
Patriotic Paint & Pour- Join us as we paint a patriotic themed picture and pour some "mocktails". Easy project for beginners. All supplies will be provided for you to create your own one of a kind masterpiece!
STARS - Radio Controlled Airplanes- This workshop is an introduction to Radio Controlled Aircraft. The STARS Flying Club is dedicated to promoting the hobby of building and flying radio controlled model aircraft. Whether you've flown model aircraft in the past or never even knew this hobby existed, this workshop is for you. Come join in on the fun.
