Supreme Court has unlimited jurisdiction and generally hears civil cases beyond the monetary limits of the lower court, such as malpractice and negligence actions. Divorce, separation and annulment proceedings are also handled in Supreme Court.
County Court handles criminal prosecutions of felony offenses committed within the County. County Court also has limited jurisdiction in civil cases, generally involving amounts up to $25,000.
The Chief Clerk for Supreme and County Courts is responsible for managing Court operations, serving as liaison with non-court agencies, preparing the Courts operational budget, purchasing supplies and equipment, seeing that all records are kept properly and that all reports are filed properly. The Chief Clerk also works with the Sheriffs Department with respect to providing security for the Courts, and coordinates the juror services with the Jury Commissioner.
